Elliptical Machine Buyer's Guide For Fitness Equipment

Elliptical machine reviews are packed with details about the superb weight loss cardio workouts the trainers provide. If you are gearing up for some thigh-toning aerobic conditioning, getting one of these fat-burning exercise partners is an excellent place to start. However, if you see one of these strange-looking gizmo's and equate it with some kind of torture tool, you can't be blamed! Exercise equipment in general, and elliptical machines in particular, are evolving so rapidly that it is almost impossible to keep up with all the latest innovations.

One major benefit is seen if you choose one of the elliptical cross trainers. Here movable upper body handlebars are added for a total body workout. Your chest, arms and shoulders are brought into play, enhancing your aerobic efforts. Now you will feel as if you are cross-country skiing, with the difference that the motion is so fluid and smooth that you won't even realize how intense the workout is. Definitely not a torture tool!

Some 6 questions you should ask your sales person.

1. The type of drive. The drive system is a vital element, but it may be difficult for a novice to make a judgment as to its quality and durability. It will be worth your while to do some homework on the internet and check reliable review sites for suggestions. These guys usually know where the hiccups are and will point them out.

2. What is the maximum user weight? It is vital to check the maximum weight capacity of the trainer. There always is an upper limit and even this has to be taken with a pinch of salt. You don't want to deal with not-so-good vibrations and balance issues, as well as eventual break downs due to overloading. If it gives the upper limit as 300 pounds and you weigh 300 pounds, rather opt for a 350 pound maximum user weight model to be on the safe side. Never use it if you are over the weight limit, as this may void the warranty.

3. What is the stride length? Make sure that the stride length is comfortable for your body type and as long as possible. The norm is more or less between 19" and 21". Too short a stride will not give you the fluid, smooth action you desire.

4. How many programs are included? A variety of programs will motivate you to stick to your weight loss cardio workout regimen. It also adds interest and introduces an element of freshness every time you set a new challenge. The programs can focus on fat-burning exercise and weight loss, your heart, hill climbing, fitness tests and a diverse range of other options. In most instances the trainer will adjust the settings automatically according to your choice of program. Some will also automatically do what is necessary to keep you within your target training zone.

5. Is the console simple to understand and easy to read? These days the displays are state-of-the-art and ply you with information about a wide range of aspects. Here you can follow the workouts as programmed, and get details about your progress. All the functions should not be seen as vital. Some folks may prefer a very simple console that is easy to understand and use. Take a look at the size of the display and make sure that you will be able to read all the stats. Electronics can seem complicated. If you are going to use the home gym equipment regularly, you have to be able to get a grip on the display and how to use the various settings.

6. Does it incorporate an upper body workout? Some elliptical trainers come with movable upper body handlebars. This adds another dimension to the training and makes it more productive.

When you are doing any kind of shopping, you should never be in any hurry, just like shopping for an elliptical machine. Take your time to make a decision and you will be happy forever.

Top 7 Tips For Man Fitness

Top 7 Tips for Man Fitness...

Fitness is the essence of a man. Fitness is the ability of a person to do his normal everyday tasks with full alertness and vigor without worrying about fatigue afterward and with extra energy in reserve which can be useful when emergencies arise or during leisure and recreation. Overall fitness must be the primary goal every man must try to achieve. In fitness, no one is ever too young or too old for improvement.

One's fitness can be improved by ngaging in aerobic exercises and through strength training. There are three components of overall fitness that every man must focus on working out in order to be in healthy, tip-top shape. These are cardiovascular work, strength training and of course, these should be coupled with a healthy diet.

Staying strong by building muscles. Man's fitness regimen should include a work out routine which aims to build the muscles. Aging causes a decrease in muscle mass of five to seven pounds (2-3.2 kgs) of muscle for every ten years in one's adult life given that he lives an inactive lifestyle. Truly, the saying "use it or lose it" is very applicable to the muscles. Fortunately, there is a good solution to this. Loss of muscle mass can be replaced by engaiging in strength training.

Improvement of Man's fitness by cardiovascular work out. Flexibility exercises, strength training and cardiovascular work out surely help boost a man's fitness and all these should be part of a man's work out scheme. But of all these, cardiovascular work is the most necessary. Exercises under cardiovascular work conditions and develops the cardiovascular system and also works out large muscle groups.

So if a man does not have much time for working out, devoting whatever free time he might have to aerobic exercises would do him fine. He might have to pass out on developing those biceps but so long as cardiovascular work out exercises are done, then the blood pressure, heart and cholesterol levels will be fine to keep you staying happy and healthy.

The essence of nutrition to man's fitness. It is best as well as well recommended to eat whole and natural foods frequently than do it on large amounts in one to three sittings. Always keep variety in mind when doing the shopping. This will ensure that one is getting most if not all of the nutrients and minerals needed by the body to keep fit and healthy. Always keep the three important macronutreints in the diet; these are fats, carbohydrates and proteins. Prioritize proteins though over carbohydrates but never exclude any one of the three on some fad diet.

Some tips in keeping a man's fitness level high, efficient and safe:

1.) Drink plenty of water all through out the day, especially when working out.

2.) Do exercises properly using the correct techniques, whether it's weight lifting or aerobic exercises. Always read and understand, and follow of course, the instructions outlined by the personal trainer.

3.) Make sure the is always a spotter when lifting weights.

4.) Challenge the muscles, but make sure that it's kept safe.

5.) Stretch, warm-up prior to working out and cool-down gradually after sessions.

6.) Check the equipment for safety before using them.

7.) It is better to do less than overdo the whole thing. Overtraining will exhaust enthusiasm and kill performance.

Soccer Fitness

Soccer is probably one of the most challenging sports today. It requires an athlete to literally be on his toes at all times, non-stop for 90 minutes with only one significant break at half-time. Thus, training and strength conditioning are needed. Over the course of one game, players alternate between sprinting and jogging approximately 6-8 miles, a good deal of it while skillfully moving the ball. They never stop, at other times jogging, back-stepping, walking, striding, passing and kicking. The endurance required of a footballer is significant, not to mention the explosive power, flexibility and muscular endurance needed to prevent muscular imbalances and injuries, while improving stamina, skill and strength. This article incorporates some important key skills, drills and training exercising to condition one's soccer agility to the best of on'e ability.

1. Warming Up. This is the key for anyone, and especially soccer players, to avoid injury. It is my belief, as it is the belief of many, that stretching or playing when one is cold has the potential to do severe damage to the body. Some calisthenics (which uses the resistance of one's body weight within simple movements), like sit-ups, push-ups, squats and calf-raises, will adequately warm-up one's body in preparation for stretching.

2. Dynamic Stretching. After a proper warm-up, the soccer athlete should incorporate this type of stretching (which uses speed and momentum of movements to propel muscle extensions), like arm-circles & swings, walking lunges, back & ab stretches, toe touches, etc., in an effort to reduce muscle tightness. This is especially effective before a game when tension can rise in an athlete.

3. Running: Sprinting, Running & Jogging. Obviously, in soccer, there is a lot of running. However, if a soccer athlete only practices jogging a few miles here and there in preparation for playing, they are not doing their job. An athlete needs to be capable - and prepared - to run full force on the field (that means hard-core sprinting). The best way to ensure this happening is to be able to incorporate it into your training routine. First things first, though: always warm up before you run and especially before sprinting, or you run the risk of an injury like tearing your muscle. Also, be aware of when you sprint, you may want to lay low before a game, less you be worn out and not up to the task on game day. I'd advise one not to sprint or run hard anytime closer than 24 hours before a game. In fact, 2 days of rest before a game may be even better.

4. Plyometrics. A key exercise utilized for top-training is plyometrics (consisting of stretching, then contracting, a muscle rapidly), which can be a highly effective way to up the rate and weight of one's ability (i.e., speed & power). Also, it won't leave one tired or out of breath. It isn't about how hard one pushes himself (save that for the sprinting), instead, it is about repetition. If a soccer athlete keeps this on his training schedule, he will be able to quicken his pace and put more power in his stride in no time. This also aids the nervous system, so it is an ideal training program for any, and indeed every, one.

5. Cool-down and rest. You need to make sure your muscles cool down after your training to reduce the risk of injury. This is just as important as the warm-up and, although seemingly tedious at times, it will save you a lot of trouble in the long run. When an athlete cools down, his/her heart rate and breathing will return back to normal, like they were pre-training. This will help prevent things like injury, fainting, dizziness, asthma, etc. This is especially relevant for the soccer athlete, as they are always doing rigorous routines and therefore undergoing significant stress to the body, building up toxins and waste products within their muscles. Through cooling down, one can (hopefully) rid themselves of excess toxins, bring the heart-rate down, and let go of tensions and strains. The cooling down should incorporate a low-intensity exercise for 5-10 minutes (walking, slow-jogging, etc)., followed by static-stretching (sometimes referred to as passive-stretching), which consists of stretching a muscle as far as one can and holding it and breathing through it. Try to hold it at a minimum of 10 seconds, and breathe deeply into whatever position you are in. After this, the key is for an athlete to get adequate nutrition (a full meal and lots of water to flush the toxins out), followed by adequate rest (go to bed, don 't drink too much alcohol - which can affect your sleeping in a negative way - and sleep for a good 8 hours).

There. Now you've got the key points to make a great soccer work-out, avoid injury and play to the best of one's ability (although some outward factors not considered, but those vary on a person by person basis, like how much partying one does, how much stress one has in life, etc.). So, my advice is to get yourself out there, put this method to the test and do your best! Happy training!

How Do I Pick The Right Fitness Equipment?

When an exercise regime consists of more than just jogging, people will at some point want to invest in proper equipment. The kind of equipment they buy depends on several factors like how much they can afford to spend, the quality of the equipment and what purpose will it serve as part of their exercise program.

Fitness equipment can range anywhere between 50 to 5000 dollars. Purchasing gym equipment depends mostly on commitment to exercise, budget and what ones typical workout routine is. Some people may be satisfied by just purchasing an exercise ball while others might require a fully equipped home gym.

For those who are looking primarily to tone their body and build muscle, a set of free weights and a good quality bar is ideal. One can easily do chin and pull-ups, some floor exercises and basic weight training to get a satisfying and varied workout.

It is important to think long term when purchasing fitness equipment. Try to buy equipment that is reliable and which will last you more than a few years. For example if you are looking for an exercise to do some spinning and get a great cardio workout in the process, try buying a bike that is solid and which will last longer.

An important thing to keep in mind is how much space you have at home right now as well as expect to in the future to store this fitness equipment. A simple machine such as a cycle occupies only 10 square feet. However, a treadmill or a multi-station weight machine may occupy anywhere between 30 to a 100 square feet.

If you are just starting out, then it is always recommended to try out different kinds of equipment made by various manufacturers so that you can find one that suits your routine and likes. Every individual has their own unique taste even in the kind of gym equipment they purchase.

It is important to get equipment that can be adjusted to suit your size and body type. Try to get equipment that can adjusted in terms of length, weight etc. so that it can be used by more than one person at home. Adjustable equipment will also be advantageous over time if you want to increase the strength and endurance of your workout.

Knowing how to use fitness equipment safely is a must, especially in order to avoid injury. Most multi-station fitness equipment come with the appropriate safety features. Do not be swayed by what sales people commonly suggest and choose equipment that will suit you needs instead.

It is quite normal to experience mild discomfort when one is beginning or getting back to an exercise routine initially but if you continue to suffer extreme pain that means that you are either not doing something correctly or need to be guided in the proper technique of using the equipment.

One needs to feel comfortable with the equipment they use. For example tread mills should come with adjustable handle bars according to ones height. Similarly, weight machines should have comfortable handlebars and a chair so that one doesn't strain their back or neck muscles while using them.

Do not hesitate to ask several questions or shop around till you find fitness equipment that you feel is suitable for your exercise needs.

Equipment-Fitness

I wonder what fitness equipment you have around your house at the moment. Maybe an old set of dumbbells, a skipping rope, some ankle weights, a mat, a bench or a fitball? And if you have this kit, is it ready for action? Has it been used recently?

It is an integral part of turning over a new leaf in your fitness regime. You plan what you want to achieve and then go out and buy the kit that will help you reach your goals. Then, for whatever reason, the kit does not get used. Maybe you do not know quite what exercises to do with it. You may be worried about getting it wrong and injuring yourself or perhaps you just do not have the space or the time for exercising at home. Then the weights gather dust, the exercise bike ends up with clothes strewn over it, and the multi-gym sits in the garage getting rusty.

Spending money on unnecessary fitness kit is frustrating and the equipment can end up haunting you and making you feel guilty for spending the money and not using it. All this can be prevented by asking yourself a few questions before you part with any cash.

If I buy this piece of fitness equipment, what will I actually do with it?

Where will I use this kit?

Where will I store this kit?

If I were to use this kit in the next seven days, when would I use it and what would I use it for?

If you cannot answer these questions quickly and easily, keep your money in your pocket. If you cannot think of what you would do with the kit, you need to do more research before you buy. You need to be able to visualize yourself putting your kit into action. Where will you be? In the bedroom, the living room, the garden? Can you imagine yourself using your kit around the house? If you cannot, chances are, you never will. You need to have somewhere handy you can store your kit. If possible it is good to get it out of sight so that your house still feels like a home and not a gym, but not so out of sight that it is out of mind as well. All home fitness kit should be hidden when you want it to be, and accessible when it is time to use it.

Finally, think about when you will be able to get started with your new kit. If you cannot find an opportunity to use it within the next seven days, the chances are that you will not be using it much beyond this first week.

Think carefully about the fitness programme you are about to embark on and what exactly you have decided it will consist of. Then you can clearly decide what kit, if any, you need to buy.

The options for exercising at home are endless and the main benefit is that you can create a time efficient workout regime with no travel time. With planning, a home fitness routine can be very effective. For more information on where to buy your kit, please refer to the fitness resources section at the end of the site.

Beauty and Fitness Work Together

Beauty and Fitness Work Together

Health is wealth. By being physically fit, it can make a person look lean both inside and out.

There is a lot a person can do such jogging or walking in the morning, playing basketball or any other sport with friends but if a person wants to have muscles and look lean, the best thing to do will be to sign up and workout in a gym.

Just like taking any medicine, one should first consult the doctor before undergoing any form of exercise.

Physical exercise is beneficial because it helps maintain and improve ones health from a variety of diseases and premature death. It also makes a person feel happier and increases ones self esteem preventing one from falling into depression or anxiety. It has also shown to make a person with an active lifestyle live longer than a person who doesn't.

The best exercise plan should have cardiovascular and weight training exercises. This helps burn calories and increase the muscle to fat ratio that will increase ones metabolism and make one either gain or lose weight.

A person who has never worked out before should do it gradually. Doing it too much for the first time can make one pull a muscle or have an injury making it worse. Endurance will never be built in a day and doing it repeatedly will surely be good to the person.

Focusing on certain portion in the body can help make it improve. A good example is going to the gym and doing a workout more often in a specific area such as the abs can give one a chest pack.

But beauty is not only about having muscles which is what people can see. It is also about enhancing the beauty within.

Here are some things one can do everyday to stay beautiful and healthy;

· Reading books and other reading material more often keeps the mind sharp just like working out keeps the body in shape.

· Work no matter what kind it is produces stress. One can reduce this by taking the time out to do something special like lying in a hot tub, shopping or watching a movie. Studies have shown it is reliever and helps one from looking haggardly.

· Pollution is something people cannot control given the size of the problem. When one goes out, it is best to put some form of protection such as beauty products that contain antioxidants that protect the skin from damage. There are also other beauty products available and choosing the right one with the help of a dermatologist can help the person.

· Another way to stay healthy is to give up some vices. Most people smoke and drink. Smoking has been proven to cause lung cancer and other diseases as well complications for women giving birth. Excessive drinking has also shown to do the same.

· For people who don't smoke, it is best to stay away from people who do since studies have shown that nonsmokers are also at risk of developing cancer due to secondary smoke inhalation.

· Lastly, it is best to always start the day with a positive outlook. Just as studies have shown that exercise makes a person feel happier, smiling produces the same effect. A smile can do a lot and it is contagious in a positive sense. It brightens the day of not only one but others as well.

Choosing The Right Fitness Plan For You-Fitness

Fitness Pitfall 4: Choosing an impossible plan.

Usual Outcome: Feeling the task is too much and impossible to even begin.

The Road to Success: Choosing the right fitness plan for you.

Now that we have done some research into what you really want to achieve with your fitness and how to get motivated to take action, we need to examine how you are going to fit achieving these goals into your life, starting now.

Overcoming The Fear of Failure

Something that can discourage people from making changes to their lives is the fear that things might not work out just as they want them to. I once heard someone say, 'I do not like to fail at what I do so I would rather not put myself under too much pressure by going on a diet, just in case I cannot keep it up'. This is a great example of how creative we can be with our excuses to avoid what we know needs to be done. It shows how we can twist things in our own minds to suit what we want to believe at the time. Although this person was unhappy with their body shape and weight, they perceived that it was better to maintain the status quo than to take responsibility for making some changes. To set about making changes and not get the result they were looking for would lead to them being dissatisfied on two counts - in their mind they would be overweight and unable to take action to fix the situation. So they settle for just being overweight.

A significant reason that people anticipate 'failure' is that they expect to hit on the right solutions, the ideal fitness plan, immediately. What can we do to create a more positive vision of fitness where the notion of failure no longer exists?

From Ideal To Real

Most people love the idea of being a physically active, vibrant, sporty individual, taking exercise, eating well and living life to the full. So why is it that so many do not manage to live up to their ideals of what it means to be physically active? And, worse than that, having failed to live up to their ideals, why are people so hard on themselves for not doing 'enough'?

As you go about your daily routine in your office, on the train, in coffee shops or any social environment around the country, it won't be long before you hear someone bemoaning the fact that they should have gone to the gym last night and they feel really guilty because they now cannot go for another three days. Or that they broke their diet yesterday and they feel terrible because they just cannot seem to stick to eating the right things.

A common limitation for people embarking on a new fitness regime is that they do not stop to consider fitness, exercise and healthy eating within the parameters of their own lives. They read the latest books or magazine article, or see something on the television that discusses the 'perfect' answer or solution to healthy living, and all of a sudden they find themselves aiming for this perfection without considering whether or not it is appropriate for them. It looks quick and looks easy, so that is what they choose to aim for.

Fitness From Relaxation and Stretching

No one, I think, would disagree with me when I say that the pace of modern life, especially in the big cities, is destructive. Why, but why is everyone intent on doing something all the time? Do they imagine they are missing something if they go to bed with a book, or sit and think, or just sit? Some people cannot tolerate being alone. Their own company is inexpressibly boring and depressing. But why? If only these unfortunates could catch even a solitary glimpse of the rich inner life of the spirit, and the awesome power of clear thought.

People who rush about in a frenzy are often not the ones who get the best results. What about the man who has had the time to think ? Who has made the time to think ? While others rushed dizzily past him he has been evolving ideas, building and planning in his slow but constructive mind. It has been said that much of the good work of the world has been done by the dull man who has done his best.

Yoga will not teach you to be dull, rather the contrary it will teach you to be more magnetic, but it will show you the importance of knowing when to slow down. The ancient Chinese believed in the theory of ‘masterly inactivity’ and this served to lay down the foundation of a unique civilization. By ‘inactivity’ I do not mean idleness, laziness or mental inertia. Yoga is not for the lazy. No, Yoga’s inactivity serves as a breathing space among the bustle of everyday life so that one can recharge the batteries of one’s physical and mental processes to pursue life with renewed energy and clearer thought, deep breathing also helps with fitness.

Yogis realized, centuries ago, that the mind always functions better in a state of relaxation. Force yourself to work and the result is a headache, weariness, and a lack of spontaneity. In those fields of work where creative ability is constantly called into play this spontaneity is of vital importance. No one wants to read, hear, or look at something dragged from a fogged and tired brain. Yoga’s first lesson, then, is how to relax. I do not wish to be an alarmist but the sheer inability to relax sends many millions of people to their graves ten, twenty, sometimes forty years before their time. So let us first consider how you are, here and now, going to cheat the undertaker of those precious years of your valuable time.

First of all do not confuse relaxation with inertia. Relaxation has been defined as ‘a conscious transfer of energy from one department of nature to another after an extreme tension of body and brain.' A mere change of occupation is a form of relaxation. This is why many office workers play football or tennis at weekends, why many manual workers sit and watch television, why many ‘brain’ workers have hobbies that involve working with the hands.

For your first lesson in relaxation let us consider that mid-morning cup of tea that most people look forward to. What do you do when it arrives? Stand and gulp it down and maybe throw another one down your throat after it? Try again. No matter who you are, a busy housewife and mother, a secretary, a company director, a cabinet minister, or a ballet dancer, stop when that cup of tea arrives. Stop, whatever you are doing, sit down quietly even if all hell is let loose around you, and enjoy that cup of tea. Drink it slowly. Try to forget, even if you have only five minutes to do so, all your immediate cares— the shopping, the laundry, that lost letter, that copy your editor is screaming for, that order you forgot to push out. Let it wait. What is the very worst thing that can happen if you drink a cup of tea in peace and quiet? Why nothing. And how much better you will feel for it, how much easier things will seem after your few moments’ respite. Relax periodically and you double your efficiency. If you doubt me then try it and see.

Create a Map to Fitness

A lot of our goals that we generate in life require some sort of plan. In fact I cannot think of one that doesn't. If I have a goal that I want to achieve and don't plan it out I don't usually achieve it. In this case; with fitness, many people want to look like their dreams, but without some sort of plan on getting there, its going to be very hard to attain.

The starting point on the map begins with a goal; sit down with yourself, and figure out your long-term goal. It's in your head, now that we know what we want in the long term, we need to somehow breakdown this goal down into a short-term goal(s). An intensity level also needs to be put into play; write down "medium" if it is something more intense within a shorter amount of time. For example "learn to run 4 miles a day in two months from your current state". Today you can only run 1 mile and you get exhausted, this is where we implement the short-term goals. The short-term goals could be to set up a routine where you can practice your running endurance daily. Its now time to understand the principles you will need to get your there.

Universally Adapt- In periods of training, exercise will give you the greatest results. Its something that you want to push yourself at doing, but don't push yourself to far, or you will collapse. Think of it this way, an average person is observing a yoga move, which has to do with some sort of intense stretching. This person then goes home and attempts the stretch; he/she then pulls one of their muscles and needs surgery because they failed to practice the moves. The world wasn't built in a day, it was built in seven; try to think this way when your trying to achieve something.

Spell Out What You Are Thinking- Begin your training with a common attitude, then once you have past that, move up a little, and a little. A bodybuilder that is building strength starts with a certain weight, and then he gradually increases this weight while his muscles are growing over time.

Don't Overload! - Like I mentioned earlier with the yoga example. Do not get lazy, and "go for it" you will hurt yourself, and you will not get to where you want, and "times a wasting". If you treat time with respect you will earn it. It's also a good idea to observe other people that are experiencing your goal. If you can see someone doing what you want to do, they have the ultimate wisdom of how to achieve it. It doesn't hurt to ask for tips. A lot of professional athletes have learned this way, usually they had a dad or an older brother to look up to.

The other thing to understand is to be happy while you're on your journey to your goal. It should be fun and exciting, there will be times when you want to give up and quit, but think of your time as your ultimate currency and if you quit you will have wasted precious time, or think of it as the rain, it will soon pass. This map that you make however should not be treated with extreme anxiety, do not feel like you have just broken a law if you fail to do something in a certain day; remember "if you fall all you can do is get back up" and everyone falls.

Nutrition And Fitness Myths

There are many myths and misconceptions floating around. And sometimes they get there because some "experts" did hasty research, got the facts wrong and proceeded to scare people. Fat is bad wooooo. Be afraid. Carbs are the enemy -woooo. Shutup! And sometimes you have people promoting a product, and to make you buy it, they're gonna feed you some BS. Here are some facts that medical scientists have debunked.

Fats aren't good for you

Says who? We all need fat. Fat is needed to absorb nutrients and maintain cell quality. It is when you eat excessive amounts that you get in trouble. Excessive eating of fatty foods can lead to heart disease and weigh gain. The key is to lessen your intake of bad fats(trans fats and saturated) and start eating good fats (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated)

Sugar causes diabetes

Ask the average person and they'll say that sugar causes diabetes. Nope! Sorry. Thanks for playing though. We have some nice parting gifts for you... If you have the disease you need to watch your sugar and carbohydrates intake. But if you don't have diabetes, you won't get it from eating sugar. The main risk factors for diabetes are a high caloric diet, being over weight and not being physically active. That's how you can get it

Brown eggs are better for you than white eggs

The color of the egg has nothing to do with it's nutritional quality. Some breeds of hen lay white eggs while others lay brown. Case closed!

You need a low-carb diet to lose weight

Ok I'll make this as simple as possible. High carb/low carb - doesn't really matter. People on those diets lose weight because the diets contain less calories. If you wanna lose weight you must eat less calories than what is needed to maintain your weight. So if weight is maintained with 2000 calories, then eating 1500 will reduce your weight. Losing or gaining weight is about calories, not carbs. Next!

Brown sugar is better than white sugar

If sugar is refined - my suggestion is don't eat it. Brown/white doesn't matter. They're both bad for you. Replace refined sugar with raw cane or beet sugar.

Red meat is bad for you

Really? Ya think so? Like most things, too much is a bad thing. But I would never suggest cutting it out of your diet altogether( unless your doctor says so). Choose leans cuts of meat like top sirloin or eye of round. Switch it up with some poultry, but cut the skin off.

Other nutrition myths are:

skipping meals can help you lose weight: nope eating before you sleep causes weight gain: nope preservatives are bad for you: not all. But some can be canned/frozen fruits and vegetables aren't as nutritious: depends. But not always

Fitness myths

No pain No gain

Wow, is your trainer a masochist or something? That seems kinda harsh. You shouldn't be feeling serious pain when you work out. If so, slow it down and relax. In order to build muscles you need to push yourself harder than normal. But discomfort is different from mind-numbing pain. If you're working/exercising too hard -stop immediately. Get treatment if it persists

Drinking water when you exercise gives you cramps.

You need water when you work out. If you sweat, you need to replace what you lost. Drinking water when exercising is what you should be doing. If you don't you can experience dizziness, headaches or cramps. So drink up.

Exercising requires a lot of time

Just walking 30 minutes a day would greatly reduce your risk for heart disease and obesity. That is not a lot. You can do it.

Health: Moderate Exercises to Fitness!

Have you ever felt tired and stressed out from work and by the time you get home you see your three children running towards you asking you to play basketball with them? You refused and promised them that you will after you take you rest.

Instead of disappointing your children, why not say, "yes" after all? You will be surprised by the amount of energy you will have after that 30-minute activity.

Did you know that by exercising at a moderate pace for only 30 minutes, you would feel a lot better, mentally? It has been proven that this improves the appetite and sharpens your style in problem solving. Not only that. You will also feel that it is easier to sleep at night if you do moderate exercises even for only 30 minutes every day.

What are the benefits of regular exercise? It promotes self-discipline and has a positive impact how you perceive life. Exercise helps in lifting your spirits and getting you out of any depression. For first timers, it can be done for 15 minutes for 2 to 3 days a week. You can increase the time you spend once your body gets tuned up for it.

DON'T you ever force your body! If you get hurt, then stop. You can take a break from exercising for a few days and then you can start again but you need to start from day 1.

Here are some moderate exercises you can do and enjoy:

1. Do the Walking. Make use of your surroundings. You can walk your dog, with your partner or child. Encourage your family to do the walking exercise daily and you will find yourself burning calories while enjoying the surroundings and getting enough sunlight that is also good for your body.

2. Discover the wonders of Yoga. Yoga is one effective exercise that energizes not only your body but also your soul. You may want to learn even the basic yoga positions that are not too complicated but proven effective. A five-minute yoga exercise can perk you up and recharge your body with the energy you lost for the whole day. You relax and at the same time you stretch!

3. Engage yourself into sports. Play basketball, football, baseball, tennis or badminton. Many doctors have recommended sports as an effective way to stay fit and healthy. Sports can also be done in moderation. Do not take it seriously. Shooting basketball with a friend is one moderate exercise that is also considered a sport.

4. Join exercise programs at work. If you still do not have exercises programs at work, then why not start it? You can talk to your boss about it and start with your colleagues. You do not only lose calories but it is also one good way to bond with them. This can be done 30 minutes, 3 times a week.

5. Exercise while doing household chores. Gardening, raking leaves, lawn mowing, doing the laundry, vacuuming and car washing are effective moderate exercises at home. Make use of these chores to sweat and burn calories. Instead of using machines and gadgets to perform these chores, why not do it with your hands and lose some fats?

Making exercises as part of your daily routines will surprise you of how much calories you will lose. Doing these moderate exercises of the same amount every day can burn 150 calories up to 1,000 calories a day!

Fitness: The Importance of Physical Fitness

One of the simplest and most effective ways to bring down blood glucose levels, cut the risk of cardiovascular disease, and improve overall health and well-being is physical fitness and exercise. Yet, in our increasingly sedentary world, where almost every essential task can be performed online, from the driver’s seat, or with a phone call, exercising and being physically fit can be tough case to sell.

In reality, everyone should exercise, yet survey shows that only 30% of the United States adult population gets the recommended thirty minutes of daily physical activity, and 25% are not active at all.

Inactivity is thought to be one of the key reasons for the surge of type 2 diabetes in America, because inactivity and obesity promote insulin resistance and other factors that trigger other kinds of diseases.

The good news is that it is never too late to get moving, and exercise is one of the easiest ways to start controlling the onset of any kinds of diseases. For people who are already candidates for some serious diseases like diabetes and heart failure, exercise and physical fitness can improve the condition of some parts of the body like insulin sensitivity, lower the risk of heart disease, and promote weight loss.

In 2003, the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism had published an issue regarding the result of their study and found out that lack of exercise and physical fitness were the key factors behind obesity and other serious diseases like diabetes.

Hence, it is extremely important for a person to stay healthy and be physically fit in order to avoid such illnesses.

Getting Started

The first order of business with any exercise plan, especially if you are a “dyed-in-the-wool” couch potato, is to consult with your health care provider.

If you have cardiac factors, your doctor may want to perform a stress test to establish a safe level of exercise for you.

Certain complications of some diseases will also dictate what type of exercise program you can take on. Activities like weightlifting, jogging, or high-impact aerobics can possibly pose a risk for people with diabetic retinopathy due to the risk for further blood vessel damage and possible “retinal detachment.”

Health experts also contend that patients with sever peripheral neuropathology or PN should avoid foot-intensive weight-bearing exercises such as long-distance walking, jogging, or step aerobics and opt instead for low-impact activities like swimming, biking, and rowing.

If you have conditions that make exercise and physical fitness a challenge, your provider may refer you to an exercise physiologist who can design a fitness program for your specific needs.

If you are already active in sports or work out regularly, it will still benefit you to discuss your regular routine with your doctor.

The bottom line is that physical fitness and exercise should not have to be a rigid activity and should not come off strong. Your exercise routine can be as simple as a brisk nightly neighborhood walk, walking the dog, or simply taking the stairs instead of the elevator. The important thing is that you keep on moving. Every little bit really helps a lot.

In the end, you will realize that the many things that good food can bring you are equally the same as what physical fitness can do for you.

When you talk about sports fitness, what comes first in your mind? It is, basically, the different sports activities, right? This is because sports fitness has always been referred to as the sports itself.

Generally, sports entail physical activities that are usually carried out for some “recreational” functions such as self-satisfaction, entertainment, competition, etc. It uses physical activity that is why most fitness experts regard sports as one way of staying fit and healthy. Humans can survive days, or even months without food, but they can never last a day without water.

Therefore, for people who are into strenuous exercises and trainings, it is best to always drink lots of water.

However, for sports enthusiasts, water may not be enough to replace the kind of fluid lost. Hence, it would be better if they would have sports drinks instead. Aside from the fluid, sports drinks have tow additional important ingredients needed by a person who is into sports fitness: carbohydrates and electrolytes.

Electrolytes are usually lost during strenuous physical activity, and this can only be replaced through sports drinks. Carbohydrates, on the other hand, are also needed by the body during rigid workouts to provide more energy so that the body can cope up to the demands of the activity.

2. More veggies!

People who are into sports fitness require more intakes of vegetables and fruits. This is because the body is craving for more vitamins and mineral supplements. It makes the body stronger and healthier enabling it to cope up with demands of the activity.

3. Calcium intake

People who are into sports fitness should have calcium present on their diet. This is to provide stronger bones to the body.

Since the body is more exposed to greater physical activities, it is important to have stronger bones in order to avoid fractures or certain bone diseases like “osteoporosis.”

Calcium can be found in different vitamin and mineral supplements. They are also abundant in foods like sardines, tofu, dairy products, etc.

4. Warm exercises are always important before any kind of strenuous activities.

This kind of activity is needed in order not to strain the body. Hence, before playing the sports that you have always love, it is best to do some warm-up exercises first.

Indeed, engaging into sports activities is one great way of being physically fit. The best thing about it is that in sports, you get to enjoy the best of both worlds.
